20 Angel/Devil Shoulders From Movies And TV

By Doug Campbell on June 8, 2012

Angels and devils have been popping up on the shoulders of cartoon characters, sitcom stars, and B-movie actors since time immemorial. Sometimes they argue, sometimes they end up on the same side, and sometimes they're characters from Batman — but they always, always signify one thing: this is quality programming.

In My Name is Bruce, Bruce Campbell (who has made a lucrative career out of being a great bad actor) faces a moral dilemma — but his good and bad angels end up taking the same side. (A pretty common shoulder angel/devil trope.) Bonus: Campbell's shoulder angel and devil is the only pair we came across that are immortalized as action figures.

In a Season 3 episode, Dennis Finch (David Spade) asks, "Where's my angel?" But he doesn't have an angel! Because he's David Spade! Ha. Ha. Ha. Just Shoot Me, you did it again.

We get to see PC's angel warn him against ripping up a lovely photo album published on a Mac. And we probably didn't get to see all the times that PC's angel had to talk him down from smacking the smug, dopey grin off of Justin Long's face.

In 1995, Bob Dole's shoulder angel and devil visited the set of Saturday Night Live, where they both agreed that conservative commentator George Will deserved to get his butt kicked. Dan Aykroyd really rocks the bearded devil Bob Dole.

Tracy Jordan and Kenneth Parcell inadvertently play the role of angel and demon in a classic Season 1 episode of 30 Rock. Pete Hornberger is close to cheating on his wife, when Kenneth (intentionally) and Tracy (he was just looking for the lobby) interrupt by poking their heads through an air vent.

Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko just looked so sad, all of the time — even his angel and devil look depressed in the Season 1 episode "Spitballs."

Mr. Mackey Loosens Up On South Park

In "Ike's Wee Wee," Mr. Mackey's shoulder angel and devil encourage him to drink a little bit of alcohol. Later, he loosens his necktie, and the big reveal? His head isn't that abnormally large after all — he just needed to unbutton his top button.
